# What you need for online care

Online appointments work just like in-person ones, and have some benefits unique to them. Here's what to have ready so your sessions go smoothly.

## Setting up your space

- A quiet, private room where your child can speak openly
- A stable internet connection
- A device with a working camera and microphone
- Not a moving vehicle or public space
- In the state you reside in, due to medical licensing regulations

## Who needs to be there

*Your child should be present for their session to work directly with their clinician. A parent or legal guardian should also be available and involved throughout care.*

- For younger children, or for parent-focused approaches like Parent Management Training, the parent may be the main participant in the session.
- If your child will be meeting with their clinician alone, let the clinician know in advance and share a phone number where you can be reached in case of an emergency.

## Where online care is available

Online appointments are available for families in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Washington. Your clinician must be licensed in the state you're in at the time of your session, so we'll always confirm your location beforehand.

## When online care isn't the right fit

*Online care works well for many families. In some situations, we may recommend in-person care instead, including:*

- If your child is in crisis or at immediate risk, or has recently been hospitalized for psychiatric care
- If your child needs a higher level of care than outpatient therapy or psychiatric services can provide
- For children under 18 months
- Our team will always help you find the right setting for your child's needs.
