## About Jamila Mclaughlin, LCSW

Jamila Mclaughlin, LCSW, is a therapist at Brightline’s Columbus Circle location. Jamila specializes in working with kids, teens, and families on issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem, relationships, LGBTQ+ issues, and ADHD.

Jamila’s approach is grounded in evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, skills building, solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), humanistic approaches, and CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia). Through these modalities, she focuses on helping clients identify challenges and needs while deepening their internal self-awareness.

She is skilled at completing treatment plans, biopsychosocial assessments, and diagnostic evaluations. She has also conducted case reviews, auditing, and clinical supervision. Throughout her career, Jamila has collaborated closely with legal, educational, and family systems, gaining a deep understanding of the complexities that influence mental health and well-being.

A New York native, Jamila considers it a privilege to observe people at all stages of life. She has witnessed growth, challenges, triggers, grief, perseverance, and humanity. She uses these observations to guide her clinical support, honoring what clients have been through and who they want to become.

### What is a therapist?

Brightline therapists have earned their master’s degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or counseling. They are independently licensed. They are qualified to do therapy and diagnostic evaluations (when they have their diagnostic privilege credential for some license types). Therapists do not prescribe medication, but they are able to directly refer families who need that service to a Brightline psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner.
