Taking the first step is the hardest part. Here's what to expect after that.

Getting help for your child shouldn't feel like navigating a maze. Here's a straight line through it: what happens first, what comes next, and what your family can expect at every step of the journey.

Your care journey

From first visit through skills and wrap-up

Step 1: Getting to know your child

Care begins with a diagnostic evaluation — two separate 60-minute sessions scheduled close together. One with you, one with your child. Psychological testing follows a slightly different process with longer sessions.

Step 2: Your results and care plan

In a 55-minute feedback session, your clinician shares their observations, discusses any diagnostic impressions, and builds a care plan with you. You'll leave knowing exactly what comes next.

Ready for the next step?

We’ll help you figure out what's next — therapy, psychiatric services, psychological testing, or a combination.

Choose a path

  • Therapy

In-person at a Brightline clinic or online
Individual sessions, family sessions, or a parent-focused approach
Tailored to your child's age and needs

  • Psychiatry

    Medication management and medication consults
Often delivered in collaboration with your child's therapist

  • Psychological testing

Structured assessments for families who need more answers
Followed by a feedback session to walk you through what we found
Helps inform your child's care plan

Step 3: Building skills together

Evidence-based treatment tailored to your child, with parents involved every session.
Therapy: 7–12 sessions, 55 min each
Psychiatry: 4–7 sessions, 30 min each

Step 4: Wrapping up strong

Care at Brightline has a real endpoint. Sessions shift toward reinforcing skills, celebrating progress, and planning what comes next. You'll know exactly how to come back if you ever need to.
