About Dawn Nero, PsyD

Dawn Nero, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and supervisor at Brightline’s Lake Success clinic. She specializes in a range of presenting pediatric concerns including anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, and autism. She utilizes a variety of evidence-based approaches to best meet each child’s needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Dr. Nero has extensive experience working in hospital, school, and private practice settings, engaging in psychological testing, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention. She has provided supervision and training to psychology and social work trainees, medical students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows.

Dr. Nero was inspired to become a psychologist by her grandfather, who worked for the state of California helping individuals with disabilities start businesses. At a young age, she told her grandfather that she wanted to help people, too, but by supporting their mental health through access to care and compassion.

After every session, my hope is that kids, teens, and their parents leave feeling a little lighter, more hopeful, and more confident in their ability to weather life’s storms. I try to be the kind of person who sees the best in others and helps them discover that same light within themselves. When people truly begin to see the best in themselves, I believe they act in ways that honor that truth and stop getting in their own way.

What is a psychologist?

Our psychologists are independently licensed providers who have completed their doctoral degree (which means they are a doctor of philosophy or psychology), including a pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship. They are qualified to do diagnostic evaluations, therapy, and psychological testing. Psychologists do not prescribe medication, but they are able to directly refer families who need that service to a Brightline psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner.
